Tight Race in Polish Presidential Election: Conservative Eurosceptic Karol Nawrocki Wins by Just 1% Margin
In the second round of Poland’s presidential election, conservative and Eurosceptic candidate Karol Nawrocki has emerged victorious, according to the country’s election commission.
Final results show that Nawrocki secured 50.89% of the vote, narrowly defeating his liberal opponent, Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, who received 49.11%, the commission announced on Monday.
Karol Nawrocki, 42, is a historian and amateur boxer who previously served as the head of a national memory institute. During his campaign, he pledged to prioritize economic and social policies that benefit Polish citizens—particularly over refugees from neighboring Ukraine.
Although most governmental power in Poland rests with the parliament, the president holds significant influence through the power to veto legislation. This has made the election closely watched by Ukraine, Russia, the United States, and the European Union.
