Putin Is Mocking the Whole World—He Must Be Stopped Now, Warn U.S. Senators

Paris, June 1 —
Russian President Vladimir Putin is preparing for a new war under the guise of peace, warned two senior U.S. Senators, calling for urgent action to stop him. They cautioned that if Putin is not stopped immediately, the war in Ukraine could spiral out of control and potentially draw the United States into direct military involvement.

Speaking to the Associated Press in Paris, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham and Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal shared their assessment after visiting Ukraine, where they toured war-ravaged areas and met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Unity with Macron

After meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, the senators stated that Macron was “100% aligned” with their evaluation of the conflict. They stressed that decisive action must be taken now to prevent Putin from launching a fresh offensive.

They introduced what is being described as one of the toughest sanctions bills in Senate history, which proposes a 500% tariff on Russian energy exports—including oil, gas, and uranium. The bill primarily targets China and India, who together buy around 70% of Russia’s energy exports and are major supporters of its war economy.

Graham declared, “This bill may be our last chance to destroy Putin’s war economy.”
Blumenthal added, “These sanctions would turn Russia into a trade-isolated island.”

Putin Plotting New Offensive, Not Peace

The senators revealed that credible intelligence indicates Putin is preparing for a new attack this summer or early fall, not a peaceful resolution.

Although peace talks are scheduled to begin in Istanbul on Monday, Ukrainian officials say Moscow is not offering any realistic proposals.

Blumenthal stated, “Putin is stalling for time so he can seize more Ukrainian territory.”
He bluntly added, “Putin is playing Trump.”

Blumenthal claimed that Putin is strategically using Trump to prolong the war. While Trump has not yet endorsed the sanctions bill, Graham said it was drafted in consultation with Trump’s advisors.

Humanitarian Crisis and War Crimes

The senators highlighted the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Ukraine.

Graham said, “20,000 children have been forcibly taken to Russia—this is not just diplomacy, it's a matter of justice.”
Blumenthal referenced the Bucha massacre, stating, “Putin is a murderer, a thug.”

Risk of NATO Involvement

Blumenthal warned that failure to act now could lead to American troops being dragged into the conflict in the future.

“If Putin is not stopped in Ukraine, one day America will be compelled to intervene militarily under NATO obligations,” he said.

Europe’s Unity and a Test for Trump

After an hour-long meeting with President Macron, the senators observed that Europe is more united than ever.

Blumenthal noted, “Macron is 100% on board with our message.”

The sanctions bill has received rare bipartisan support in the Senate, with 41 Republicans and 41 Democrats backing it.

Graham concluded,

“President Trump said the next two weeks will reveal whether Putin is manipulating him from behind the scenes. Russia may send a clear signal as soon as Monday.
