At least 1 person has been killed and 21 others injured in a shooting at a victory parade for the Super Bowl champions in the state of Kansas, USA. Most of the injured are children. The incident occurred yesterday, Wednesday (February 14).
According to a report by the news agency AFP, 12 of the injured have been admitted to the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas. Among them, 11 are children, 9 of whom have gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred at a time when the victorious team, the Kansas City Chiefs players, were celebrating their victory.
The police have stated that the incident has led to the protection of three individuals. However, the police have not provided any information about their identities or why the attack was carried out. Investigations are ongoing into the incident.
Ross Grundison, head of the Kansas Fire Department, said at a press conference, “Many of the injured are at risk of death. We have recovered 8 individuals in critical condition from the scene. The condition of 7 others was even more critical, and the remaining 6 were slightly injured.”
In response to the shooting at a parade in Kansas, President Joe Biden has supported Congress’s call to ban firearms for American citizens. He said, “The incident today has deeply affected us. We are shocked, we are ashamed.” In a statement at the White House, he expressed support for his government’s efforts to ban or restrict firearms on a personal level, urging American citizens to support them.
