Jerusalem Day March at Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound Was ‘Violent and Disgraceful’ – Israeli Opposition Leader Yair Lapid
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has strongly condemned the recent Jerusalem Day parade, calling it "violent and disgraceful."
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Lapid stated,
“Jerusalem Day was celebrated yesterday with a violent and disgraceful march, during which chants like ‘May your village burn’ were heard, and the deaths of children in Gaza were mocked.”
He questioned what one of Israel’s most revered religious figures, Rabbi Abraham Isaac Kook, would have said if he had witnessed these events.
Lapid remarked,
“In fact, we know what he would have thought. He wrote: ‘There must be love in a person's heart for fellow human beings... even for those who are not part of our world.’”
Lapid’s comments have sparked fresh debate within Israeli society about the current political and religious climate. Tensions frequently rise during Jerusalem Day commemorations, but this year’s parade drew particular criticism for its extremist slogans and hateful behavior toward residents of Gaza.
This incident comes at a time when Israeli operations in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of children, drawing intense condemnation from the international community.
Lapid’s stance is being seen as a clear voice in support of human rights and peace-oriented values within Israel.
