Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak has said, “It is highly doubtful that continuing this war in Gaza will yield any outcome different from previous wars.”
In an article published in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, Barak wrote, “This will undoubtedly deepen Israel’s diplomatic and legal isolation, detach it from the global stage, fuel a wave of antisemitism, and become a death sentence for some or most of the living hostages.”
He further stated, “The war would only be meaningful if it could ensure a complete victory over Hamas — but that will never happen.”
Barak called for leadership “that would seize the opportunity for a comprehensive prisoner release, end a meaningless war, resolve the humanitarian crisis, remove Hamas from power in Gaza, and eliminate its capacity to pose a threat.”
He described proposals for permanent occupation of the Gaza Strip and the displacement of two million Palestinians as “baseless and delusional fantasies” that “will bring disaster upon us and accelerate conflict with the international community.”
Barak emphasized, “Now is the time to rid ourselves of the worst government in our history,” referring to the current Netanyahu administration. “The sooner, the better.”
