The Washington Post reports that former President Donald Trump’s administration has warned that continued U.S. support for Israel could be withdrawn if the war in Gaza is not halted. Citing an anonymous source, the report states that Trump’s representatives have told the Israeli government: “If you do not end this war, we will not stand by you.”

In an official statement, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said, “President Trump also wants an end to the Gaza war.” She added that the recent release of American-Israeli citizen Edan Alexander in Gaza sends a message that peaceful solutions outside of war are possible. Notably, the U.S. negotiated directly with Hamas for Alexander’s release without involving the Israeli government in the process.

Trump’s Middle East Tour: Raising Alarm Over Gaza Humanitarian Crisis

Last week, President Trump visited Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, holding talks with regional leaders. During his trip, he said, “Many people in Gaza are starving. People are suffering. Horrible things are happening there.”

European Allies Threaten Sanctions on Israel

The U.K., Canada, and France have also threatened sanctions if Israel does not halt its military operations and lift restrictions on humanitarian aid into Gaza. According to Reuters, a joint statement issued by the British government said, “The Israeli government's blockade of humanitarian aid poses a risk of violating international humanitarian law. We also oppose settlement expansion in the West Bank. If necessary, we will not hesitate to take strong measures such as sanctions.”

Netanyahu Responds: “Rewarding the October 7 Attack”

In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a harsh rebuke, saying, “Leaders in London, Ottawa, and Paris are proposing rewards for the genocidal attack on Israel on October 7. This opens the door for even more atrocities in the future.”

He added, “Israel will defend itself justly until we achieve total victory.” Israel’s conditions for ending the war include the full release of all hostages and the complete demilitarization of Gaza.

Gaza Faces Deepening Humanitarian Crisis

Since early March, Israel has blocked all humanitarian aid to Gaza, including medical supplies, food, and fuel. Observers warn that this is pushing the Palestinian population toward famine and constitutes a violation of international law.
