Khan Younis, Gaza | May 18, 2025 –
British plastic surgeon Dr. Victoria Rose, who has resumed medical service at Gaza’s southern Nasser Hospital, has described the current situation there as "utterly horrific" with emergency supplies almost completely depleted. “There’s nothing left – it’s all gone,” she said in a deeply emotional statement.
Dr. Rose, who provided care last year at Gaza’s Nasser and European hospitals, returned to the region just days ago only to find that no medical or food aid has entered for nearly 76 days.
“We are now barely surviving by exchanging small amounts of surplus equipment between NGOs,” she said. “Yesterday, we sent a team to the European Gaza Hospital – which was recently damaged in an airstrike – to retrieve whatever equipment and medical supplies we could find left among the rubble.”
She added,
“The situation now is far worse than it was last year. It’s not just about the lack of equipment – the condition of the people has also worsened dramatically. When we entered Gaza, the destruction was exactly as we left it – most of the buildings were destroyed last August. But this time, the biggest shock was the total absence of supplies.”
“We’re essentially running on a small-scale bartering system,” she explained, “trying to trade what little we have in excess for things we don’t have at all. But we can’t go on like this for much longer – we are running out of everything.”
With international aid currently cut off, Gaza’s healthcare system is on the verge of collapse.
Dr. Rose warned,
“It’s a full-scale emergency now – we’ve reached the end of the line.”
Human rights organizations are describing the situation as an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, calling for urgent global intervention. For the people of Gaza, immediate action from the international community is now critical for survival.
