[Baghdad, May 17, 2025] – The ongoing genocide in Gaza is “indescribably more horrific than any conflict in history,” said Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani during his speech at the Arab League summit held in Baghdad. He also announced a $40 million aid package from Iraq for the reconstruction of Gaza and Lebanon.
Al-Sudani stated, “This genocide has reached a level of brutality unseen in any historical conflict.” Expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people, he added, “Our perspective is that a resolution to the region’s crises and conflicts must be based on guaranteeing the full rights of the Palestinian people so they can live a dignified life in their homeland.”
The Iraqi Prime Minister further proposed the establishment of an “Arab Reconstruction Fund” aimed at financing post-crisis rebuilding efforts across the Middle East.
“Iraq is allocating $20 million for Gaza’s reconstruction and another $20 million for Lebanon’s rebuilding,” he declared.
Al-Sudani strongly condemned the forced displacement of Gaza’s population and asserted, “The genocide in Gaza and the attacks in the West Bank and other occupied territories must come to an end.”
He called for the reactivation of UNRWA’s operations and urged Arab nations to “take a responsible and proactive role in protecting Gaza.”
This powerful address has added renewed pressure on the Arab League to act on the Palestinian issue and underscored the urgent need for a united humanitarian response to the ongoing crisis in the Middle East.
