[May 17, 2025] – According to a report by Reuters, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Saturday questioned the conflicting signals from U.S. President Donald Trump during a naval event in Tehran.

“Which one are we supposed to believe?” Pezeshkian asked. “On one hand, he talks about peace, and on the other, he threatens us with the most advanced weapons of mass destruction.”

Pezeshkian stated that Iran will continue nuclear negotiations with the United States, but emphasized, “We do not want war.”

On Friday, Trump claimed that Iran had received a nuclear proposal from the United States and that they understood the urgency to resolve this long-standing conflict. “More importantly, they know that if they don't act quickly, something bad—very bad—could happen,” Trump said during a conversation with reporters aboard Air Force One following his visit to the United Arab Emirates.

However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi refuted Trump’s claim in a post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “We have not received any proposal from the United States. There is no scenario under which Iran will give up its hard-won right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.”

Pezeshkian further added, “We will not retreat from our legitimate rights, because we do not bow to oppression. They accuse us of being the source of regional instability.”

Last Sunday, the fourth round of Iran-U.S. talks concluded in Oman, but the next round of discussions has yet to be scheduled.
