[New Delhi, May 14, 2025] — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the country’s air defense systems — including the Russian-made S-400 Triumph system — played a decisive role in India's “Operation Sindoor.”

In a statement released by the Indian government, the Prime Minister also praised domestically developed air missile systems.

Earlier, The Times of India reported that the Prime Minister visited the northwestern Adampur Air Base in Punjab, where he posed for photographs in front of the Russian S-400 system.

Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated following a terrorist attack on April 22 in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen.

On the night of May 7, India launched strikes against terrorist camps in Pakistan under the codename “Operation Sindoor.” Pakistan responded with retaliatory measures.

On May 10, New Delhi and Islamabad agreed to a ceasefire. Following military-level talks, both sides committed to halting all forms of shelling and military operations on the ground. However, within hours, drone sightings were reported across multiple cities in Jammu & Kashmir, as well as in Punjab and Rajasthan. India's air defense systems were activated, and power grids were temporarily shut down as a precaution.

On May 12, Hindustan Times reported that India would now engage with Pakistan solely at the military level, with no scope for political dialogue.
