During the ongoing visit of U.S. President Donald Trump to Saudi Arabia, reports indicate that among the agreements being signed is a $100 billion arms deal.
Under this deal, Saudi Arabia will purchase weapons and other military equipment from the United States.
It is also reported that the package includes the acquisition of radar systems and transport aircraft.
The United States has long been a major supplier of arms to Saudi Arabia. However, relations between the two countries had cooled somewhat during Joe Biden’s presidency in 2021.
The Biden administration had suspended arms sales to Saudi Arabia due to concerns over the country’s role in the Yemen war.
Earlier, the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi had also affected the relationship between the two nations. U.S. intelligence agencies reported that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had approved the murder.
