India Must Act Like a Big Brother – Mehbooba Mufti Calls for Permanent Ceasefire
Mehbooba Mufti, former Chief Minister of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, has called for the India-Pakistan ceasefire to be made permanent. She also responded to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump.
In an interview with Indian news agency ANI, Mufti said, “I hope this ceasefire becomes permanent so that people can return to their homes.”
Earlier, President Trump had said he wanted to work with both India and Pakistan to help resolve the Kashmir issue.
Responding to this, Mufti said, “India is a large economy and a great democratic country. We should act like a big brother. The idea that a third party will solve our problems is not acceptable.”
She added, “The Indian government must begin political dialogue with Pakistan and seek a political solution to the conflict. We should build good relations with all our neighbors.”
According to Mufti, a peaceful resolution through dialogue is essential for the peace and stability of not just Kashmir, but the entire South Asian region.
