Following the ceasefire announcement, President Donald Trump on Sunday praised both India and Pakistan for reaching the agreement and offered mediation on the Kashmir issue. His comments came at a time when India accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire agreement. The ceasefire officially took effect from 5 PM on Saturday.

In a post on his social media platform ‘Truth Social,’ Trump said:

“I am extremely proud of the strong, wise, and resolute leadership shown by both India and Pakistan. They understood that the time had come to end the ongoing hostilities, which could have led to massive destruction and the deaths of countless innocent people. Their courageous steps have further honored their legacy.”

Referring to the U.S. role in facilitating the agreement, Trump added:

“I am proud that the United States was able to assist you in reaching this historic and heroic decision.”

He further announced:

“Though it hasn’t been part of the discussion yet, I am declaring that the United States will significantly enhance trade with both of these great nations. Additionally, I will work with both sides to see whether, after a thousand years of conflict, some resolution to the Kashmir issue can be reached.”

Trump Offers Mediation on Kashmir

On the Kashmir dispute, Trump stated he was ready to work with both India and Pakistan to find a path toward resolving the long-standing issue.

“I will work with both countries to see if we can find a solution to this thousand-year-old problem of Kashmir. Congratulations to the leadership of India and Pakistan for this successful initiative.”

India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday, with the United States playing a mediating role. This came after an escalation of tensions and increased cross-border shelling.

However, shortly after the ceasefire came into effect, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri accused Pakistan of "serious violations" of the agreement.

In a press briefing, Misri said:

“The agreement reached earlier this evening between the Director Generals of Military Operations of India and Pakistan has been repeatedly violated by Pakistan. This is a serious breach.”

He further added:

“The armed forces are responding appropriately and proportionately to these violations, and we are treating this matter with utmost seriousness. We urge Pakistan to take appropriate measures to halt these violations and act responsibly.”
