Karachi, Pakistan – May 10, 2025:
The recent announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan has brought a wave of relief across Pakistan, particularly in Karachi, where citizens expressed hope that the worst of the tensions may finally be behind them.

According to a report by Al Jazeera, many in Karachi gathered in tea shops and public spaces to watch the news unfold on television screens. At one such café, Abdul Shahid, a local resident, could hardly hold back his emotions as he followed the developments.

"Thank God, reason has prevailed. I believe both sides achieved what they wanted—demonstrating their military strength, sending strong messages about national security and Kashmir," said Shahid, eyes fixed on the screen.
"In my view, Pakistan has come out stronger from this situation. But at the end of the day, war would have helped no one," he added.

The announcement has shifted public and political focus to the next critical question: What comes after the ceasefire? Will the peace talks continue and evolve into something more lasting?

Talat Hussain, a well-known Pakistani broadcast journalist, shared his perspective, stating, "I believe even the Line of Control (LoC) will see calm now." However, he stressed the need for deeper engagement:
"We must now reduce troop deployments and bring forces back. Then what? We must sit down and discuss key issues—like the Indus Waters Treaty, the Pahalgam incident, and India's concerns."

Analysts say the ceasefire is only a first step in a long process. Achieving real peace and mutual trust will require strong political will and sustained diplomatic dialogue.

While the guns may have fallen silent for now, observers warn that without concrete follow-up and accountability, the region could easily slide back into hostility. For now, however, many in Pakistan are cherishing a rare moment of calm, with guarded optimism for a peaceful future.
