[Islamabad, May 8, 2025] – The death toll from India’s recent cross-border strikes into Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir has risen to 31, with 57 others injured, according to an official statement from the Pakistan Armed Forces.

A military spokesperson confirmed the updated casualty figures to BBC Bangla, noting that the number of fatalities had increased from the previously reported 26, and the number of injured had climbed from 46.

The strikes took place late Wednesday night and targeted what India described as terrorist infrastructure in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians. India has defended its operation, code-named Operation Sindhur, as a measured and proportionate response.

In retaliation, Pakistan reportedly launched counterattacks into Indian-administered Kashmir. According to the Indian military, 15 civilians were killed and 43 others wounded in the Pakistani response.

The escalating violence has drawn widespread concern from the international community, with calls for restraint, de-escalation, and immediate dialogue between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Analysts warn that continued cross-border military engagement could lead to a broader regional conflict.
