No Immunity for Terrorists – Rishi Sunak Says India’s Stance on ‘Operation Sindhur’ is Justified

Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has stated that no country should be forced to tolerate terrorist attacks originating from territory controlled by another state. He expressed strong support for India’s strikes on terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir under Operation Sindhur, launched in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Posting on social media platform X, Sunak wrote:

“There can be no question of tolerating terrorist attacks launched from another country’s territory. India’s strike on terrorist infrastructure is justified. There can be no impunity for terrorists.”

His comments stand in contrast to the more cautious approach taken by the current UK Labour government. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, speaking during Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) in Parliament, said:

“We are in urgent contact with both countries, as well as with other international partners, to support dialogue, de-escalation, and the protection of civilians.”

UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy also warned that

“No one benefits if this situation deteriorates further,”
urging both India and Pakistan to show restraint and engage in direct dialogue.

India has described its operation as a “measured, proportionate, and non-escalatory response.” Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that the strikes became necessary due to the lack of visible action by Pakistan against those responsible for the Pahalgam attack.

It’s worth noting that the April 22 terrorist attack in the scenic Pahalgam valley was one of the deadliest in recent times, killing 26 civilians.
