Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Postpones Visits to Croatia, Netherlands, and Norway Amid Ongoing India-Pakistan Border Tensions
New Delhi, May 7, 2025
Amid escalating military tensions along the India-Pakistan border, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has postponed his scheduled visits to Croatia, the Netherlands, and Norway. The decision came shortly after the launch of India’s military operation named “Operation Sindoor.”
According to official sources, Operation Sindoor was conducted in retaliation for a deadly militant attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, which killed 26 civilians. On Wednesday (May 7), India carried out targeted strikes on militant bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The Indian government stated that a total of nine terrorist installations were struck during the operation.
Following the military operation, both Prime Minister Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh skipped participation in the Victory Day Parade held in Moscow, Russia. Analysts interpret the avoidance of diplomatic travel as a strategic signal amid the looming threat of conflict at the border.
The operation’s name, “Sindoor,” is derived from the red powder traditionally applied to the hair parting of Hindu married women as a symbol of marriage. The symbolic naming of the operation is widely viewed as a reflection of India's cultural identity and strategic messaging.
