Top-Level Pakistan-Iran Meeting in Islamabad: Joint Commitment to Regional Peace and Stability

[Tehran, May 5, 2025] — According to a report by Mehr News Agency, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday in Islamabad.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Prime Minister Sharif held a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his delegation in Islamabad.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the historic and brotherly ties between Pakistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran and highlighted the need to further strengthen bilateral relations.

The meeting was also attended by Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar.

Prime Minister Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the recent explosion at Iran’s Shahid Rajaee Port, offering heartfelt condolences to the Iranian government and people. He also extended warm greetings to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s high regard for its deep-rooted historical and fraternal ties with Iran and reaffirmed the country's firm commitment to working closely with Tehran to advance regional peace and stability.

On his part, Abbas Araghchi conveyed greetings from the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and other senior Iranian officials to the Pakistani Prime Minister and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to strengthening ties with Pakistan and promoting peace in South Asia.

During his day-long visit, Araghchi also held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar before meeting the Prime Minister and President.

According to a press release from Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, both Araghchi and Dar emphasized the importance of continued cooperation to enhance mutual understanding.

They also exchanged views on regional and global priorities and reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace and stability.

The statement added that Araghchi expressed Iran’s keen interest in further deepening its relationship with Pakistan.
