Washington, D.C. | May 4, 2025 — According to a Fox News report, a former senior budget analyst at the U.S. State Department, Levita Almuet Ferrer (64), has pleaded guilty to embezzling over $650,000 from the U.S. government over a two-year period during the Biden administration (fiscal years 2022–24). The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C. has confirmed the matter.

Ferrer, a Maryland resident who worked in the Office of the Chief of Protocol at the State Department, admitted to abusing her signature authority on a State Department checking account between March 2022 and April 2024.

Prosecutors stated that Ferrer wrote 60 checks to herself and 3 additional checks to another individual personally known to her. She printed and signed each check herself and deposited them into her personal bank account. In total, she embezzled $657,347.50 through 63 checks.

Ferrer, also known as Levita Brezovich, used QuickBooks software to conceal her fraudulent activities.

According to prosecutors, she generated and printed the checks in QuickBooks using her own name, then altered the payee names in the software to legitimate State Department vendors—so the system would not show her as the actual recipient.

On Wednesday, Ferrer pleaded guilty to theft of government property, and her sentencing has been scheduled for September 18. She faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

As part of her guilty plea, Ferrer has agreed to repay the full amount embezzled from the U.S. government and to pay an equivalent amount in fines.
