According to a report by CBS News, U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and his deputy Alex Wong have resigned from their positions at the White House. The news of their resignation was confirmed on Thursday.

The resignations come shortly after a statement by Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, who announced in a post that the meeting initially scheduled for Saturday, May 3, has been rescheduled "for logistical reasons" and that new dates will be announced soon.

The primary reason behind the resignation is being linked to an incident in March, popularly known as "SignalGate." Waltz mistakenly added journalist Jeffrey Goldberg to a Signal group chat, where discussions about military plans targeting Houthi rebels in Yemen were taking place. Although no classified information was leaked, the revelation triggered widespread criticism. Waltz referred to the incident as a "mistake," while President Trump publicly defended him, calling him "a good man" who had "learned a lesson."

Following Waltz’s resignation, Steve Witkoff—currently serving as a special envoy on Russia and Middle East affairs—is being considered as a potential replacement. This is seen as the first major reshuffle of the Trump administration in its second term.

In the wake of Waltz’s resignation, six more officials from the National Security Council were dismissed in April, reflecting growing internal instability and criticism within the administration.

This resignation is being viewed as a significant blow to the Trump administration, highlighting internal turbulence and mounting scrutiny
