The Kremlin stated on Tuesday that although Russian President Vladimir Putin has made several direct proposals for peace talks, Ukraine has yet to respond, and it remains unclear whether they will participate in the three-day ceasefire announced for next month.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters:
“President Putin has repeatedly stated that Russia is ready to begin a negotiation process without any preconditions. So far, we have heard nothing from the Kyiv regime.”

On Monday, Putin announced that Russia would observe a three-day ceasefire in Ukraine from May 8 to 10, to mark the 80th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

In response, Ukraine questioned why Russia wouldn’t agree to a full 30-day ceasefire, at the very least.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented,
“We value human lives, not parades.”

Peskov added that it is “very difficult to understand” whether Ukraine will join the ceasefire.
