Moscow, April 28 — According to a report by the state news agency TASS, Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his gratitude to North Korea, its leader Kim Jong Un, and units of the Korean People's Army (KPA) for assisting in "liberating" the Kursk region from Ukrainian forces, as stated by the Kremlin's press service.

In a statement, Putin said, “Our North Korean friends’ actions are a symbol of solidarity, a sense of justice, and true comradeship. We highly value this and express our sincere gratitude — to the Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, Comrade Kim Jong Un, and to the leadership and people of North Korea.”

He further added, “We commend the heroism, excellent training, and dedication of the North Korean soldiers, which they demonstrated while standing beside Russian troops to defend our motherland as if it were their own.”

"They performed their duties with honor and courage and achieved undying glory," Putin remarked.

The operation to reclaim the Kursk region was completed on April 26. While reporting to the President, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov praised the role of North Korean troops in eliminating Ukrainian forces during the operation.

Russia and North Korea have signed a broad strategic partnership agreement. According to Article 4 of the agreement, if either party comes under armed attack, the other party will provide military and other assistance “by all means at its disposal.”
