A hearing is ongoing at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague regarding Israel's actions in the occupied Palestinian territories, including acts of occupation, barbaric killings, and the cessation of humanitarian aid. According to a report from Anadolu Agency, a significant public hearing began on Monday, where Israel's activities in the occupied Palestinian territories will be reviewed.
The court previously stated that this hearing would examine Israel's responsibilities in the context of the presence and activities of the United Nations, other international organizations, and third-party states for advisory opinions.
Representatives from 40 countries and four international organizations will present oral statements during this hearing. Countries involved include Turkey, Malaysia, South Africa, China, Russia, Spain, Ireland, Brazil, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. Important organizations such as the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Arab League will also contribute.
The hearings are taking place at the Peace Palace, the seat of the ICJ, and are open to the public. While Israel has submitted written statements, it will not present any oral statements during the hearing.
In the context of Israel's war in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, which has resulted in over 52,000 Palestinian deaths and the destruction of large parts of Gaza, a case for genocide is being heard at the ICJ. Additionally, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants in November 2023 against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
