Once Again, Russian President Vladimir Putin Declares a Unilateral 72-Hour Ceasefire
According to a report by the state news agency TASS, Russia has announced a 72-hour unilateral ceasefire in Ukraine and has called on Kyiv to agree to this temporary pause.
On Monday, President Vladimir Putin stated that Russian forces will halt fighting from midnight on May 7 to midnight on May 10. This announcement comes amid growing pressure from the United States on Moscow to agree to a full ceasefire.
Russia will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of the "Great Patriotic War" on May 9 — a term referring to the Soviet Union’s participation in World War II.
In a statement, the Kremlin called on Kyiv to join the temporary truce but warned that if Ukrainian forces violate the ceasefire, the Russian Armed Forces will deliver an “appropriate and effective response.”
