According to a report by the Russian state news agency (TASS), Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed deep condolences to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian following the explosion at Shahid Rajaei port.
In a condolence message published on the Kremlin’s website, Putin said, "I deeply regret the loss of life and widespread destruction caused by the horrific explosion at Shahid Rajaei port. I extend my sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and wish for the swift recovery of the injured."
Putin further stated that Russia is ready to assist Iran in dealing with the aftermath of this tragic incident.
On Saturday, April 26, a devastating explosion occurred at Shahid Rajaei port in Bandar Abbas city, located on the Persian Gulf coast of Iran. According to the latest reports, 25 people have been killed and nearly 1,400 injured in the incident.
The exact cause of the explosion has not been officially disclosed, but The New York Times reports that the explosion is suspected to have been caused by sodium perchlorate, used in solid rocket fuel.
