The ongoing tension between India and Pakistan will not directly affect us - Bangladesh Interim Government
According to a report by BBC Bengali, Bangladesh's Interim Government Foreign Affairs Adviser, Touhid Hossain, has stated that the current situation between India and Pakistan will not affect Bangladesh.
Speaking at a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, Mr. Hossain responded to a question from journalists. He said, "In modern times, everything has some impact on everyone, so I am not saying that nothing will affect us. However, their conflict does not have any direct impact on us because we are not taking sides in it."
He also mentioned that if any relationship deteriorates in business, it affects trade and commerce. Regarding the arrest of Bangladeshis in India in the context of the Kashmir attack, he stated that he has only seen reports in the newspapers and added, "So far, we have only seen this in the newspapers. We have not received any official communication on this matter."
He commented that if the people involved are Bangladeshis, they will be brought back, but it must be verified whether they are indeed Bangladeshi nationals.
Regarding the current situation between India and Pakistan, he made it clear that Bangladesh's stance is very clear. He emphasized that Bangladesh wishes for the tensions between the two countries to ease in any way possible.
He said, "We would like to maintain good relations with both India and Pakistan. We hope that they will resolve their issues through dialogue. We have already seen proposals for mediation from a few countries. Whether it is through mediation or direct talks between the two sides, we want the tensions to be eased, and peace to prevail."
When asked whether Bangladesh would take the initiative for mediation between the two countries, he replied that Bangladesh does not want to take the initiative for mediation proactively.
