In the historic Dvortsovaya (Palace) Square of Saint Petersburg, Russia, rehearsals for the grand Victory Day military parade have begun. The parade, scheduled for May 9, will mark the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s historic victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
Hundreds of Russian soldiers participated in Tuesday’s rehearsal. The parade troops marched in perfect formation, while various military units showcased their preparations. Both historical and modern military equipment were displayed as part of the rehearsal.
As in previous years, Russia is set to celebrate Victory Day on May 9 with grand ceremonies. On this day in 1945, Hitler’s Nazi forces officially surrendered, marking the end of the European front of World War II and heralding a glorious chapter in history with the Soviet Union’s triumph.
This year’s celebration holds special significance as it marks the 80th anniversary of the victory—a major milestone. President Vladimir Putin, along with top Russian military and political leaders, is expected to attend the parade.
The rehearsal at Dvortsovaya Square was conducted under tight security. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that troops from across the country are participating in the rehearsals and preparing for the final parade.
For the people of Saint Petersburg, this event is more than just a military display—it is seen as a powerful expression of history, pride, and patriotism.
