Pope Francis is Anti-Semitic and Pro-Palestinian – Israel Will Not Attend His Funeral: Ambassador Dror Eydar
Former Israeli Ambassador to Italy, Dror Eydar, has labeled Pope Francis as "anti-Semitic" and called on the Israeli government to refrain from participating in the Pope’s funeral. He claimed that the Pope’s statements and positions have contributed to spreading anti-Semitism on the international stage.
Dror Eydar, who served as Israel's ambassador to Italy from 2019 to 2022, made these remarks in a recent interview with Israeli media outlet Maariv.
He said, "Pope Francis’s level of anti-Semitism has reached a point where only Pope Pius XII could be considered comparable."
Notably, Pope Pius XII was the head of the Catholic Church from 1939 to 1958 and faced heavy criticism for his silence during the Holocaust in World War II.
Eydar added, "Pope Francis has accused us of genocide, spoken about the children of Gaza, but not about our children. This is one-sided and biased."
He further stated, “This Pope is largely responsible for spreading a new wave of global anti-Semitism.”
🔹 Support from Former Ambassador to the Vatican
Rafael Schutz, who served as Israel’s ambassador to the Vatican from 2021 to 2024, partially agreed with this criticism. Speaking to Israeli broadcaster KAN, he said, “Pope Francis did not speak out in favor of Israel against Hamas’s terrorist attacks. Instead, he sided with the people of Gaza, which deeply hurt the Israeli public.”
He also added, “His statements and actions have diminished international sympathy for Israel.”
What Will Be Israel's Position?
The Israeli government has yet to make an official decision regarding its participation in Pope Francis’s funeral. However, after such strong criticism from two former diplomats, the country’s Foreign Ministry may have to weigh potential diplomatic considerations.
