Encouraged by President Donald Trump, President Vladimir Putin Promises Ceasefire – Ukrainian Think Tank
U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly pledged that he will end the Russia-Ukraine war swiftly. However, alongside this promise, he has also shifted long-standing U.S. policy — moving away from firmly supporting Ukraine and instead showing a degree of acceptance toward Russia’s perspective.
Hanna Shelest, Director of the Security Program at the Ukrainian think tank Ukrainian Prism, stated that Putin may be feeling encouraged or emboldened by Trump’s recent actions.
She explained,
“For the Kremlin, the current [U.S.] administration is a very convenient mediator,”
because Washington is now responding to Russian demands “with much more openness” compared to before, and is considerably more flexible than many European nations.
Shelest added,
“That’s why the Kremlin believes it can now work much more closely with the White House than it can with the governments of Berlin, London, or Paris.”
