Hundreds of former and current reserve officers from Israel’s elite intelligence Unit 8200 have joined members of the Israeli Air Force in calling for an immediate end to the ongoing war in Gaza. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority confirmed the development.

This protest comes at a time when the Israeli military and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office have announced that reserve soldiers who signed the letter calling for an end to the war will be relieved of active duty.

“This War Is Political, Not for Security,” Claim Soldiers

In a letter issued by Unit 8200, the officers expressed serious concern:

“We say with deep concern that this war is being waged for political and personal interests, not for national security.”

They further stated:

“Continuing this war is not helping achieve any meaningful objectives; rather, it is endangering the lives of both hostages and soldiers.”

Support from the Academic Community

Israeli Channel 12 reported that in solidarity with the air force members, nearly 2,000 teachers and professors from various higher education institutions have also signed the letter.

Soldiers Face Criticism from Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has previously dismissed such protests by soldiers as “irresponsible and a threat to national security.” However, the growing military and civilian movement suggests that anti-war sentiment is gaining significant momentum within the country.

Ongoing War and Humanitarian Crisis

The war in Gaza, which has been ongoing for several months, has caused substantial loss of life on both the Israeli and Palestinian sides. Despite increasing international pressure to halt the conflict, the Israeli government continues to maintain a firm stance.
