China has announced that it will increase tariffs on U.S. goods by 84%, a significant rise compared to the previously announced 34%. This decision follows the implementation of the 104% tariff on Chinese products by the Trump administration.

Trump's extensive tariff measures, which apply to imports from nearly every country, came into effect in the United States after midnight today.

China's announcement demonstrates that Beijing is not backing down in the ongoing global trade war, which began after Trump's decision on April 2, when he announced the imposition of "retaliatory tariffs" on nearly every country. Following that announcement, China revealed it would impose a 34% tariff on U.S. goods, prompting Trump to impose an additional 50% tariff on Chinese products.

As a result, with Trump's tariff declaration, the total tariff on imports from China has reached 104%, which U.S. companies will have to pay when importing products from China. These companies are likely to pass on some or all of the import tariff costs to American consumers, leading to price hikes on Chinese products, especially items like iPhones and clothing manufactured in China.

On April 9, China issued a statement calling Trump's decision to impose a 50% tariff "another mistake on top of a mistake." It described Trump's tariff actions as "unilateral, protectionist, and economic suppression."
