Beijing, April 9, 2025: Beijing has rejected claims made by Kiev regarding Chinese nationals fighting on Russia's behalf in the ongoing conflict. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lin Jian, stated during a press conference, "Such claims are baseless. In fact, China's position is very clear."

Yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that two Chinese nationals had been detained by Kiev while fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region. In response, Lin Jian said, "The Ukrainian side should accurately assess China's political efforts and its constructive role in resolving the crisis."

Furthermore, Lin advised Chinese citizens to stay away from armed conflict and confirmed that Beijing is currently verifying the information provided by Kiev.

Zelensky also stated, "This is a clear signal that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not want to end the war." However, Lin Jian clarified that "The Chinese government has always called on Chinese citizens not to travel to conflict zones and not to participate in any military activities of any party."

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba later summoned the Chinese Charge d'Affaires to the Ministry and protested the claims, demanding clarification. In a statement, he said, "Chinese citizens fighting as part of the Russian invading forces calls into question China's declared position for peace and undermines Beijing's credibility as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council."

Meanwhile, Russia has not yet commented on this matter.
