April 7, 2025 – France and Egypt signed a strategic partnership agreement on Monday, covering sectors such as health, transport, and energy. French President Emmanuel Macron stated that this agreement would help ensure Egypt's stability, as the region is currently facing instability.

"Egypt is a strategic partner for our country," said Macron during a press conference in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Macron added that he supports continued discussions between Egypt, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the European Commission.

Last month, the IMF approved $1.2 billion in aid for Egypt to help address the country's high inflation and foreign exchange deficit.

Macron further announced that France’s foreign aid development agency would sign a loan and grant agreement worth €260 million ($284.5 million) for Egypt, which will be used in the sectors of transport, health, water, and energy.

Both Macron and President Sisi reiterated their calls for an end to the ongoing fighting in Gaza and the release of Israeli detainees.
