Tel Aviv: Since Israel’s renewed assault on Gaza last month, Israeli forces have taken control of much of the area. Currently, they control over 50% of Gaza, and Palestinians are being confined to smaller, increasingly isolated areas.

Israeli troops have occupied the largest areas near Gaza’s borders, where they have destroyed Palestinian homes, agricultural lands, and infrastructure, making it impossible for people to live in those areas. This military security zone has expanded to double its size in recent weeks.

Israeli authorities are presenting this land grab as a temporary measure, aimed at securing the release of the last civilian hostages held by Hamas. However, human rights organizations and Gaza experts suggest that this area may be used for Israel’s long-term control.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated last week that even after Hamas is defeated, Israel will maintain security control over Gaza and force Palestinians to vacate the area.

According to military reports, destruction has been ongoing near the border since the war started 18 months ago. The military claims that they have destroyed every Palestinian home, farm, pipe, tree, and industrial facility to prevent any rebels or armed individuals from seeking refuge.

Additionally, plans are underway to create a new corridor in the southern part of Gaza, which would separate the city of Rafah from the rest of the area.

Human rights organizations have described these actions as tantamount to ethnic cleansing, as Palestinians will not be able to reclaim their homes and land. However, Israeli forces argue that they are working to keep the general public safe and are attempting to comply with international law.

Meanwhile, the shrinking of Gaza’s land and the displacement of thousands of Palestinians have raised growing international concerns about the future of the region.
