Former U.S. President Barack Obama did not want Kamala Harris to be the Democratic Party's nominee for the 2024 election and had little confidence in her chances of winning. Explosive details regarding this have emerged in a new book.

The book, titled FIGHT: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House, written by NBC News senior political reporter Jonathan Allen and senior political correspondent for The Hill, Amie Parnes, reveals that when President Joe Biden dropped out of the race, Obama did not want Harris to automatically become the nominee. Instead, he was in favor of an open nomination process with competition within the Democratic Party.

In an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday, Allen said, "Obama did not think Biden should continue the race, but he also did not see Harris as a worthy candidate. He had been working behind the scenes for a long time advocating for a 'mini-primary' or an open convention."

Last-Minute Support but No Confidence

The book claims that even though Obama spoke with Harris on the day Biden dropped out, he did not publicly endorse her at that time. He also reached out to Congressman James Clyburn to discuss the future of the Democratic Party.

However, after Biden officially endorsed Harris, Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, supported her five days later.

Biden's Directive: 'No Daylight, Kid'

The book further reveals that as President, Biden wanted Harris to fully align with his administration's decisions and not publicly disagree with them. Especially before the debate, Biden reportedly called Harris and said, "No daylight, kid," meaning there should be no gap between their positions.

This became problematic for Harris, as during her campaign, she did not have the opportunity to distinguish herself from Biden's administration.

The revelations in this new book have already sparked a storm of discussions in U.S. political circles. However, no comments have been received from Obama or Harris’ offices regarding these claims.
