Efforts are underway to rebuild Russia-US relations with President Donald Trump – Kremlin spokesperson Peskov
Moscow (March 31) – Following US President Donald Trump's "very angry" and "pissed off" comments about Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin has responded. Trump made remarks about Putin's stance on giving Ukraine a "temporary administration," aimed at progressing toward a peace agreement between the two countries.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reacted to Trump's comments on Monday, saying that parts of the remarks were not direct quotes but were reinterpreted and presented as "various statements." Peskov also stated that Moscow and Washington are continuing to work on rebuilding relations between the two countries and addressing the situation in Ukraine.
Peskov told reporters, "We are still working with the American side, mainly on rebuilding our bilateral relations, which suffered significant damage during the previous administration."
He added, "We are also working on implementing some ideas regarding the Ukrainian peace process. Work is ongoing, but as of now, there is no specific information that should be shared with you."
When asked about the possibility of a phone call between President Putin and Trump, the Kremlin spokesperson said, "It is not yet on President Putin's schedule, but if necessary, it can be arranged very soon."
Meanwhile, in an interview with NBC News on Sunday, Trump criticized Russia and Iran harshly and issued threats. Regarding Russia, he said, "I was very angry – pissed off – when Putin started talking about Zelensky’s credibility."
He also said, "If no deal is made and I think, 'It’s Russia’s fault,' I’ll impose a second tariff on all oil exports from Russia."
Regarding Iran, he said, "If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing," and also hinted at reimposing economic pressure on Iran.
Through these comments, Trump reaffirmed his tough stance on Russia and Iran, sending a clear message about US policy toward these two important countries in the world.
