New York, March 11, 2025 – Additionally, the speakers at the protest claimed that the demonstration was also a response to the recent killings of Chhatra League activists in Bangladesh and the demolition of the residence associated with Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s memory. They stated that attacks, false cases, and killings against Awami League activists were part of a conspiracy involving both the government and certain international entities.
The protesters further alleged that several influential groups were behind multiple killings and violent incidents in Bangladesh after August 5, 2024. They argued that Awami League activists were repeatedly targeted due to the government's indifferent stance. In this context, Awami League leaders demanded the resignation of Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus as Chief Adviser of the government.
During the demonstration, the speakers declared, "We will not tolerate the dishonor of the founder of Bangladesh’s independence. We demand justice for the killings of Chhatra League activists."
They also called on the United Nations to take a neutral stance in protecting democracy and human rights in Bangladesh.
Several senior leaders of the US Awami League were present at the protest. They stated that the Awami League would continue its protest programs to inform the UN and the international community about the real situation in Bangladesh.
