Russian President Vladimir Putin reminded French President Emmanuel Macron of Napoleon's defeat during his 1812 Moscow campaign. This came after Macron made comments about Russia.

During a meeting with members of the 'Defenders of the Fatherland Foundation' in Moscow on Thursday, Putin said, "There was a discussion about a museum related to Smolensk and Napoleon's invasion. Some people still think about those days, but they forget how it ended."

He further added that in the past, France had failed to conquer Russia and would fail again, citing the steadfastness of Russian soldiers.

"Your son and his friends and colleagues, it is impossible to defeat Russia," Putin told the mother of a Russian soldier fighting in Ukraine.

He also pointed out that Russia's enemies always make the same mistake, underestimating the character of the Russian people. He mentioned that there are fundamental aspects within all of Russia's ethnic groups that unite them.

Meanwhile, in a televised address to the nation on Wednesday night, Macron stated that Russia had become "a threat to France and Europe," and announced that a "strategic discussion" on nuclear defense had been initiated to protect European allies.
