March 5, 2025 - Belarusian leader and Russian ally Alexander Lukashenko said in a statement published on Wednesday that Moscow and Minsk are benefiting from the rift between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the United States and the European Union.

In an interview with media personality Mario Nawfal on Elon Musk's "X", Lukashenko praised U.S. President Donald Trump's policies regarding the Ukraine war. He said, "It is only because of this administration that the issue of ending the war has become so urgent," said Lukashenko, who extended his 31-year reign in a controversial election in January.

Lukashenko further added, "It benefits us that Trump showed Zelensky his place, he should know it."

Due to the Ukraine war, Lukashenko has become closer to Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose invasion partially started from Belarusian territory. Putin has since deployed Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. Lukashenko said that Trump’s only goal was to end wars, which he described as a "brilliant" foreign policy.

He said, "I am ready to stand by him and do everything necessary to end the war and improve people's lives."

The European Union and the United States have imposed multiple sanctions on Belarus in response to alleged election fraud in the 2020 presidential vote and the country's support for Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Lukashenko stated that the recent rift between the U.S. and the EU is beneficial for Belarus.

"Let’s be honest, it is beneficial for me, it is useful for us that the U.S. and the EU have disagreements," Lukashenko commented, although he did not elaborate further.
