La Paz, March 4 - A truck collided with a bus in southern Bolivia on Monday morning, killing at least 31 people, police have reported. Another 22 people were injured in the accident.

Police spokesperson Limbert Choque confirmed the death toll, stating that both men and women were among the victims. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and began the rescue operation. After the accident, Bolivia’s President Luis Arce expressed condolences on social media and offered sympathy to the grieving families.

“This tragic incident must be investigated to determine responsibility,” he wrote on Facebook. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wish them strength to cope with this difficult time.”

Police said the bus rolled 500 meters (1,640 feet) down a ravine after the collision. The accident took place on the highway between Oruro and the mining city of Potosi. Police added that the truck driver has been arrested, and the cause of the accident is under investigation.

This accident occurred just days after more than 37 people were killed in the same region when two buses collided.
