Leaders from South Africa, Malaysia, and Colombia have issued a joint article urging the enforcement of penalties for Israel’s violations of international law.
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and Colombian President Gustavo Petro wrote in the article published in Foreign Policy magazine, "The choice is clear: we either act together to enforce international law, or we risk its collapse."
They further stated, "The assault on the Palestinian people mirrors dark chapters in our own countries' histories, including colonial rule, counterinsurgency, and apartheid."
"We may come from different continents, but we share the conviction that complacency is complicity in such crimes. Denying the Palestinian people's right to self-determination is a direct affront to international justice," they added.
The article was also co-authored by Varsha Gandikota-Nellutla, the chairperson of The Hague Group, an organization composed of eight countries taking "decisive and coordinated action" in pursuit of accountability for Israel’s crimes. Among their efforts is South Africa's ongoing case accusing Israel of genocide in the International Court of Justice.
