President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin's Phone Call, Discussion on Ukraine War
Beijing, February 24: Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, according to China's state media. This was their second phone call on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
China and Russia had announced a "limitless" strategic partnership just days before Russia sent troops into Ukraine in February 2022. Over the past decade, Xi and Putin have held more than 40 meetings, and Putin recently referred to China as a “partner.”
China has never condemned Russia for the Ukraine war, which has heated up their relations with Europe and the United States.
This was their second phone conversation in January 2025, during which they discussed strengthening relations with U.S. President Donald Trump and explored the possibility of a peace agreement to end the Ukraine war.
Trump is eager to resolve the Ukraine war quickly, but his approach has raised concerns among European allies, as he blamed Ukraine and proposed a unilateral plan for talks with Russia that could bring significant economic benefits to Russia.
