French President Emmanuel Macron said that Europe’s goal is to establish lasting peace in Ukraine. Speaking alongside U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, he stated, "Our common objective is to establish a solid and long-lasting peace in Ukraine." The meeting took place on the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion, which marked the start of the war in Ukraine.

After the meeting between Macron and Trump, the European leader commented that a long-term peace arrangement is necessary for Europe’s security. He expressed support for Trump’s plan to find a sustainable solution to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Meanwhile, tensions have arisen over Trump’s proposed U.S.-Russia talks, where Ukrainian or European leaders are excluded. European countries are concerned that the United States is not sufficiently committed to Ukraine’s security.

President Trump said on Monday, "We’ve had some very good talks with Russia, and we’re trying to get the war between Ukraine and Russia ended. I think we’ve made a lot of progress in just a few weeks."

The meeting between Macron and Trump followed Trump’s criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where he labeled Zelensky as a “dictator” and suggested that Ukraine was responsible for the war.

President Macron aimed to convey to Trump that it is crucial for both Europe and America not to show weakness to Putin, particularly when conducting U.S.-Russia talks.

Additionally, U.S. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz stated that Macron will discuss security guarantees with Trump.

Trump and Macron will also discuss trade with the European Union, with Trump threatening to impose tariffs on the bloc.

Macron and European leaders are not seeking a quick peace agreement but are instead focused on ensuring stability for Ukraine. There is concern in Europe that if Trump seeks a fast peace deal, it could undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty.
