Former U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron faced an awkward handshake tug-of-war on Monday while holding critical discussions at the White House on the Ukraine war. Both participated in a virtual meeting with leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries, where the Ukraine war was a major topic.
Trump shared a post about the meeting on his social media platform, Truth Social, claiming, "If I were president, this war would never have started."
He said in the post, "Today, French President Emmanuel Macron joined me in the Oval Office to discuss the G7 Summit. The meeting was convened by Governor Justin Trudeau of Canada to mark the third anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war. Everyone expressed their goal of seeing the war end, and I emphasized the importance of the 'Critical Minerals and Rare-Earths Deal,' which we hope will be signed very soon."
Trump further added, "This deal will be an 'Economic Partnership' that will help the American people recoup the billions of dollars and military equipment sent to Ukraine, while also supporting Ukraine’s economy to bring this brutal and savage war to an end."
He also mentioned, "I am in 'serious discussions' with Putin about ending the war, and there will be 'major economic development agreements' between the two countries."
Trump concluded his post saying, "The talks are proceeding very well!"
