Kash Patel's nomination as FBI Director was confirmed by the Senate with a 51-49 vote. Republican Senator Mitch McConnell voted "yes," while moderate Republicans, Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Susan Collins (Maine), voted "no." Earlier, a cloture vote in the Senate on Thursday approved a two-hour debate on Patel's nomination with a vote of 51-47.

The Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this month voted 12-10 to advance Patel's nomination to the full Senate. However, Democrats attempted to delay the confirmation process. The top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, Senator Dick Durbin, raised allegations against Patel, claiming that he was responsible for the mass firing of FBI employees. However, Republicans refuted these claims, calling them politically motivated and baseless.

Patel, who played a significant role in national security during the Trump administration, stated during his confirmation that he would ensure the FBI would be free from political retribution and would prevent any agents from being punished for political reasons.

He further stated, "There will be no political interference at the FBI. I will not engage in any retaliatory actions against FBI personnel."

Patel has prioritized allowing "good cops to be cops" and ensuring "transparency." He mentioned that he would work to strengthen the FBI's operations by increasing the presence of federal agents in the field.
