Washington, February 20: U.S. President Donald Trump signed several new executive orders on Wednesday, including one that prohibits the use of taxpayer money for illegal immigrants and another aimed at eliminating regulations that the administration deems as "overreach."
The immigration-related order bans the use of federal funds for immigrants living in the U.S. illegally. It mandates that all agencies identify any federally funded programs that assist illegal immigrants. The White House stated that this executive order ensures that federal funds cannot be used by "sanctuary cities" or local governments to assist illegal immigrants. Sanctuary cities prevent local law enforcement from helping federal immigration officers.
In another order, Trump instructed the heads of all agencies to review all regulations and work with members of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency. Regulations that are deemed inconsistent with the administration's policies will be rescinded or modified, according to the order. This action is intended to support Musk's broader efforts to reduce government spending, though it faces several court challenges.
Additionally, Trump is working to eliminate several advisory committees and agencies as part of his broader campaign to assert control over independent executive agencies. The agencies set to be dissolved include the United States Institute for Peace, which promotes conflict resolution globally; the Inter-American Foundation, which funds community development programs in Latin America and the Caribbean; and the U.S. African Development Foundation, which invests in community development efforts in Africa
