Philadelphia, USA: On Tuesday morning, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) van caught fire in Philadelphia's Center City. After footage of the incident spread on social media, some people claimed that it had been intentionally set on fire by left-wing extremist groups.
However, both the Philadelphia Fire Department and ICE authorities stated that although the cause of the fire is still unknown, there is no evidence of foul play.
Rachel Cunningham, a spokesperson for the Philadelphia Fire Department, said, "Our fire marshal spoke to the driver of the vehicle, who escaped unharmed. After speaking with him, we confirmed that this was an accidental fire. I don't know what caused the fire or what type of accident occurred, but there is no suspicion of foul play."
The department reported receiving a call at 8:38 a.m. on Tuesday about a vehicle burning in Center City. A fire engine responded and extinguished the flames. As a precaution, the fire marshal was called because the van is a government vehicle.
ICE spokesperson Tanya Roman said, "The van caught fire due to mechanical issues. The Philadelphia Fire Department quickly responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, and the van's occupants were unharmed. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but there is no suspicion of foul play at this time."
