International Criminal Tribunal Orders Completion of Investigation Against Sheikh Hasina by April 20
The International Criminal Tribunal has directed the completion of the investigation into the charges of crimes against humanity filed against Sheikh Hasina by April 20.
On Tuesday, the three-member tribunal, led by Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mojumder, issued the order.
Following this, Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam held a press conference where he mentioned that the investigation into Sheikh Hasina's case is almost at its final stages.
"As the investigation nears completion, the United Nations published a detailed report on the crimes against humanity committed in Bangladesh during July-August. The report clearly states that the crimes committed in Bangladesh during that period were widespread and systematic," he said.
"To suppress the students and public, all government forces used firearms, lethal weapons, and helicopters to kill them. There were gender-based violations, particularly targeting children, and the government's brutality during the suppression of the movement was premeditated," he added.
He further stated that the United Nations has identified Sheikh Hasina as the principal orchestrator of these crimes and mentioned, "We have requested them for access to the materials on which this report was based."
