Munich, February 14, 2025: UK Foreign Minister David Lammy said on Friday that he and U.S. Vice President JD Vance agreed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky must be part of any peace talks or agreements aimed at ending the ongoing war with Russia.
After a meeting at the Munich Security Conference, Lammy told Reuters, "We are very encouraged by our discussions about Ukraine. We all have this desire to bring this horrendous war to an end. Our view is that there must be a lasting peace... and Zelensky and the Ukrainians must be part of that negotiated deal."
Earlier, on Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump startled his allies by announcing talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine.
Regarding this, Lammy said, "It’s not surprising that Donald Trump wanted to speak to Vladimir Putin, and indeed wanted to speak to Volodymyr Zelensky as well, but these are just talks at the moment. We are still some way from a negotiated peace."
