The Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has stated that the national election in Bangladesh could take place in December this year, following the implementation of the July Accord based on the recommendations of the National Consensus Commission.
He made this statement today, Thursday, while attending an interactive plenary session at the World Government Summit (WGAS) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
During his remarks, he also addressed the investigation report by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). He referred to the report as "comforting" for Bangladesh.
He stated, "The UN report has detailed how the police and armed forces carried out killings, abductions, and torture under the orders of the then Prime Minister. Therefore, Bangladesh does not need to say anything about this to the world, as we have the UN document. This is reassuring."
